Llámame tal vez?
I love when things happen to me that are, by nature, meant to write down. To record because they’re worth it. It’s the best gift, usually given to me by those who don’t even mean to.
Sometimes the literary world feels like the place where I actually reside. The real world is just the muse.
I have spent the good part of the last week wondering what prompted a certain phone call on Wednesday June, 27th 2012. It was random, and…no. Nevermind. ‘Random’ doesn’t quite do it justice. Fell out of the sky? Came out of left field? Popped up? Ugh, no. Give me a minute.
It was spawned by purpose, though unexpected, as the voice on the other end traveled the coils of her office phone and into my ear to change my whole world.
Maybe I’ll pepper in a little more undue profundity here and ask if you think that maybe we are all on tally with the universe? And that’s why this happened? Yes, Brett, I think they call that karma.
Maybe I’ll stir it up even more and ask if you think that maybe He throws us a line when we’re least expecting it? And that’s why this happened? Yes, Brett, I think someone always used to say “God is good.”
I got one phone call and I feel an evenness approaching. A vital calibration. An exhale.
With perfect timing.
